Matrix Gemini™ LIMS
Matrix Gemini™ is the first Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) LIMS that provides exactly the same screens via a Windows™ client on your network or via Internet Explorer on the web. Once a screen is designed for the client using the unique OneTime Configuration™ tools it is immediately available as a form in your browser – no extra effort, no additional cost!
Some LIMS are 100% web based and some offer two separate interfaces, one for the web and one for a Windows client, with Gemini you can choose the connection to best suit your location, network and job function – no compromises! You need not give up the rich functionality and fast response of a Windows client in order to have a common web interface.
Matrix Gemini is written in C# using pure .NET tools, it is not a mixture of JAVA and other languages. It contains no old legacy code and uses no esoteric scripts. It may be hosted on either an Oracle or SQL Server database. This 21st century design ensures that it will be supported for many years to come.
Matrix Gemini is:
- Faster to implement
- Easier to use and support
- Designed for business changes
Benefits of Matrix Gemini LIMS
The primary benefit of Matrix Gemini compared to other commercial LIMS is its flexibility and powerful, easy to use configuration tools. These provide the ability to change workflow and screen design without any programming or expensive custom code.
This flexibility allows Matrix to be configured to more closely match the needs of many different types of laboratories. It is ideally suited to customers with demanding applications and those who need the ability to change their system to keep current with their business needs. See our client list for more details.
Matrix workflow screens and menus may be configured to support sample and/or batch registration in the laboratory, at a remote site by a client or researcher, or via electronic transfer from some other system such as ERP. The appropriate tests and limits can be added automatically at registration based upon the type of sample.
Following registration, samples may be marked as received by the laboratory and additional “chain of custody” information can be entered. The list of tests to be carried out may be reviewed and edited as needed. Upon “Receipt” work may be allocated to specific resources such as individual laboratories, technicians or instruments.
After “Receipt”, an additional status level may be added to the workflow, to confirm that the sample has been prepared and is available for immediate testing. This ensures that samples are not included in instrument run lists (or runsheets) until they are ready to be tested.
Results may be entered manually via specifically designed user-friendly screens; imported from other electronic files such as spreadsheets, or downloaded directly from instruments or test devices connected on-line.
Matrix Gemini supports the import, storage and reporting of Binary Large Objects (BLOBs). Hence images, diagrams, spectra, gel images, documents, etc. may be stored securely within the Matrix database as test results or as part of the sample record.
For laboratories that test products against limits or specifications, Matrix provides the ability to have multiple sets of limits at the test, sample type (substance) and individual sample level. These limits can be set to trigger specific actions- issue a warning, mark as failed, reject and more. “Rule-based limits” are provided, where the limit employed is modified according to some sample criteria, such as substance name, sex, age, country of destination, customer, etc.
Once all the sample information and test results are entered into the database, many different reports can be generated using Crystal Reports. These may be printed or distributed electronically. Trend plots and control charts are produced on demand to assist you in managing your process.
Matrix Gemini has strong security and audit features and has been successfully validated to operate in FDA compliant laboratories. The management of passwords, sessions, timeouts and electronic signatures assists you to comply with 21CFR Part 11.
With this degree of flexibility, documentation would be a problem for other systems, but the Matrix Screen Capture feature eliminates this by automatically producing an accurate printed record of each screen and the functions that it contains. These documents are then assembled into a completed user guide as part of our system delivery process.
